On Thursday, 8 February, the Duke of Edinburgh International Award (DofE) bronze certificates were awarded in the Chamber Hall of Pilsen Town Hall. Eight students from participating educational institutions in the region received this prestigious award.
DofE is an education programme that supports young people in more than 130 countries around the world to develop for the long term. It aims to give everyone the chance to be ready for the challenges of the modern world. The organisation was founded by Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, in 1956 to promote the self-development of boys and girls regardless of their background, physical ability or skills. The programme is aimed at anyone aged 14 to 24 and is based on informal, experiential education.
There are now over 230 institutions and more than 5,000 pupils and students involved in the Czech Republic. Each participant chooses a skill, physical activity and volunteering activity according to his/her interest and then regularly engages in each activity for a certain period of time within the selected level (bronze, silver and gold level). During the programme, he/she also completes a team expedition.
In the Pilsen Region, a total of seven institutions are involved and we believe that not only other 'Dofaks' (participants of the programme) but also educational institutions will join the programme.
