About DofE

What is DofE

The Duke of Edinburgh's International Award, or DofE for short, is a challenge for anyone aged 13 to 24. Discover your strengths (and maybe weaknesses) and experience things that will push you. Embark on a journey that will show you what you're really made of!

You choose the activities you enjoy, from three areas: movement, skill and volunteering. You spend an hour a week on each one. You're also going to expeditions with friends. If you can handle everything, you'll get a certificate that'll get you fired.

Thanks DofE

  • you'll get better at the things you enjoy
  • you will make great friends and gain experience
  • you'll discover what's inside you
  • you get to know your strengths (and maybe weaknesses)

How the DofE works

You can do your DofE in a registered organisation or DofE centre. To find out if there is a DofE centre in your area, check with the registration form.

Want to join the DofE but don't have a place? Meet your DofE from anywhere

Join DofE online and complete your challenge from anywhere - with all the benefits of the program, but with more flexibility.

Who is the DofE online for?
  • For students whose school or organisation does not offer the DofE.
  • For individuals who wish to fulfil the DofE independently.
  • For those who prefer online support and community.
How does DofE Online work?

If you log in to the DofE online, it's basically the same as applying through a school or other registered organisation. We'll just assign you a mentor from somewhere else and you go on the expedition via the DofE National Centre. Besides, you're fulfilling your agenda just the same.

You choose one of three levels: bronze, gold and silver. This will determine how long you will commit to the program.

Bronze level
  • 6 months
  • from 13 years old
Silver level
  • 6-12 months
  • from 15 years old
Gold level
  • 12-18 months
  • from 16 years old

You choose activities in three areas of the DofE: skills, movement, volunteering. Then you spend one hour a week on each of them.

Skill

There are a lot of choices here. From playing a musical instrument to learning a foreign language to cooking or programming. You'll set achievable goals to work on your talents, learn brand new skills or hone existing ones. The important thing is that you enjoy it.
Examples of activities

Motion

Physical activity will help you improve your performance and physical fitness. You might work on teamwork in volleyball or meet new people in ice skating. You don't have to be the best and win medals, you just have to want to push yourself a little further.
Examples of activities

Volunteering

When volunteering, you will work on yourself while helping others. You will develop your tolerance, responsibility and patience while making the world a little bit better. This includes tutoring, cleaning up the woods, working with children or walking shelter dogs. There are plenty of opportunities!
Examples of activities

Expeditions

The expedition is a challenge for you to overcome the fear of the unknown and also an opportunity to go with a group for a few days in the countryside and discover interesting places in the Czech Republic and abroad. An expedition always has a purpose, for example, mapping forgotten places, collecting plants for the herbarium or climbing an entire navigable stretch of river.
Examples of activities

Residential project

You will meet new people and use the knowledge and skills you have gained in other areas of the DofE. You'll go to a place you don't know and do something interesting and meaningful. You could go on a camp, an educational placement or perhaps take part in a volunteering project.
Where to do a residential project

You set a goal that will motivate you and move you forward.

With the choice of targets you your manager will help, who will guide you through the entire program, will coach/mentor you and lead you to the ceremony and certificate.

You will record and track the achievement of your goals in our ORB application.

TIP: Every goal you set for each activity should be SMART.

S = Specific

M = Measurable

A = Achievable

R = Relevant

T = Timely

You and your friends will spend a few days together in nature. You will discover interesting places in the Czech Republic or abroad. And also to meet the target. For example, mapping forgotten places, collecting plants for the herbarium or climbing a stretch of river.

You will be assisted by an experienced adult leader. You get it either through a DofE centre in your area, or online.
