How does DofE work?

You choose activities in 3 DofE areas: skills, movement and volunteering. You then spend 1 hour a week on each of these. So in total, DofE will take you 3 hours a week. At the end of the day, you'll have an expedition with your friends.

Skill

You have many choices in this area. From playing a musical instrument to learning a foreign language to cooking or programming. You'll set achievable goals to improve your skills, work on your talents or learn a whole new set of skills. The important thing is that you enjoy it.
Examples of activities

Motion

Physical activity will help you improve your performance and physical fitness. You might work on teamwork in volleyball or meet new people in ice skating. You don't have to be the best and win medals, you just have to want to push yourself a little further. You'll also learn to maintain a healthy lifestyle.
Examples of activities

Volunteering

When volunteering, you can work on yourself, but you can also help others. You will need to develop your tolerance, responsibility and patience. In addition to tutoring classmates, this includes cleaning up the woods, working with children, helping at the food bank, and much more. You can ask your leader about volunteer opportunities.

Expeditions

The expedition is a challenge for you to overcome the fear of the unknown and also an opportunity to go with a group for a few days in the countryside and discover interesting places in the Czech Republic and abroad. An expedition always has a purpose, for example, mapping forgotten places, collecting plants for the herbarium or climbing an entire navigable stretch of river.
Examples of activities

There is a wide range of activities to choose from in the DofE areas. You'll set a goal that will motivate you and move you forward.

You choose one of 3 levels. This will determine how long you will follow the program.

You'll go on an expedition as a team and spend a few days in nature with your friends. You will be assisted by an experienced adult leader.

For direct entry to the bronze level you will pay 200 CZK, to the silver level 400 CZK and to the gold level 600 CZK. If you have already completed the previous level, the fee for the subsequent level is reduced to 200 CZK. In case of advancement from bronze level to gold level you pay 400 CZK. So the maximum you will pay is 600 CZK for all levels. Read more information on fees.

Alumni

Tom

"Our teacher told me about the DofE and at first I thought it was going to be some rubbish. Then I took the plunge and found it to be a worthwhile programme. I started a non-profit organisation in volunteering that trains kids in parkour."

Elishka

"For me, the DofE has always connected, and continues to connect, the four most important areas of my life. Improving myself in activities I enjoy, caring for those who are less fortunate, connecting with inspiring people and last but not least, taking on new challenges."

Lucie

"I've been swimming since I was a kid and I wanted to push myself a little further, so the idea of swimming across Gibraltar came up. I did it and as a result I was invited to dinner with Britain's Prince Edward, who runs the global DofE. I've also learned a lot in the volunteering field, coaching a children's swimming team."

James

"My goal in the DofE was to cycle to Bosnia and Herzegovina. This gave me a lot of travel experience and taught me things I wouldn't have learned at school. I know they will be useful especially in my future job."

Kamila

"I was first introduced to the DofE in England and I had the interesting idea that the activities I normally do could be directed somewhere. The DofE helped me figure out what I wanted to do in life, which is why I am now studying medicine."
