During the month of March, the DOFE centers participated in the Charity Bake Sale. This not only marked three years since the appointment of DOFE's Patron, Prince Edward, Duke of Edinburgh, but more importantly helped those in need. In the end, the charity sale of sweet and savoury goodies raised £296,218 for schools and other organisations.
With this year's Charity Bake Sale, we continued the tradition of two previous years. And with the new edition, the interest among the DOFE centers has also grown. In total, 42 DOFE centers participated, inMost organized a Charity Bake Sale on March 10. It was on this day that it was three years since Prince Edward was appointed Duke of Edinburgh. Some centres had adjusted the date, for example, because of the spring break.
As last year, the motto of the event was „Leave the snacks at home.“ The schools served muffins, cakes, pizza snails, brownies, sweet and savoury strudels, and some people fried pancakes in the school. „We are very pleased that more schools have joined the Charity Bake Sale again this year. And the amount raised is proof that young people and their leaders can join forces and help where it is needed,” says Tereza Staňková, the regional manager who coordinated the event.

One of the participating schools was the Gymnasium Třinec. "We organized the event for the first time and at the last minute. The first idea to participate came at the beginning of March from the dofaks. It was an unexpected success, sold out in three breaks and some of the participants were not even there,” describes the local coordinator Petra Bruková. The school raised almost 7 thousand crowns, which were sent to the Medeca mobile hospice.
According to the coordinator Martina Ungrová, the event was a huge success at the TGM Primary School and the Gymnasium in Česká Kamenice. Dofáci and dofačky made over 5 thousand crowns by selling baked goods. They want to use the money for the local Home for the Elderly: "The dofaks and I thought we'd do an event: Invite a senior citizen for coffee. (we will invite seniors to the pastry shops for coffee and cake and chat with them or play cards, etc.”
Inspiration for further repetition
At the Secondary Medical School in Pardubice, in addition to the dofactors and managers, the accountant or cleaner was also directly involved in the event. "The whole event was a great success. There would be interest in a longer continuation. We have baked for Ukraine, floods and other families in the past, so we know it is successful here. The management agreed and the students were enthusiastic about shopping. One day didn't seem enough, so we expanded it to a full week and next year we are planning a full month before Christmas,“ says coordinator Ivana Horníková. The school raised over 15,000 crowns, which will go to support a mother caring for her disabled daughter.
The coordinator of the Gymnasium in Polička, Barbora Pejcharová, also praises the Charity Bake Sale. "We are happy to be part of DOFE and one of the reasons for that is just the guidance to charity and volunteering. It also creates the right camaraderie and community throughout the school.“
Among the supported organizations are the Good Angel Foundation (Gymnasium Petra Bezruče, Frýdek-Místek), Raná péče v Ostravě (1st International school of Ostrava), Dětský hospice Malejovice (Archa Primary School and Kindergarten at CČSH), Člověk v tísni (Gymnasium Lovosice), Zúřecí pohoda (Gymnasium Plasy), Ekocentrum Vydra (Practical Primary School Třeboň), Kapka Naděje (SPŠOA Uherský Brod).
Students of the Matiční Gymnasium in Ostrava sent money to Helping Hand for Guimaras to help an orphanage in the Philippines on the island of Guimaras. Students from the Gymnasium in Lovosice agreed to help a retriever puppy and contribute to the cost of hip surgery. The proceeds from the Tábor Secondary School of Commerce, Services and Crafts and the Language School with State Language Examination went to the rehabilitation of the disabled Simon Štádler from Tábor. And the students from the Primary School in Šlapanice sent the proceeds to the House for Julia.
„The Charity Bake Sale is already a tradition for us and we are very happy that more DOFE centres are getting involved every year. We want to continue the organization and we will definitely prepare it next year,” adds Tereza Staňková.
