During March, DofE schools took part in the Charity Bake Sale. This not only marked two years since the appointment of DofE Patron, Prince Edward, Duke of Edinburgh, but more importantly helped those in need. In the end, the schools raised £130,282 in a charity sale of sweet and savoury goodies.
With the Charity Bake Sale this year we followed up on last year's successful event. In total, 23 schools from all over the country participated this time. Most organized a Charity Bake Sale on March 10. This was the day that marked two years since Prince Edward was appointed Duke of Edinburgh. However, due to spring break or other events, other DofE centres got involved later.
Wide selection of savoury and sweet pastries
"The motto of the event was "Leave the snacks at home", I believe that teachers and students at the participating schools could really do that," says Tereza Staňková, the regional manager in charge of the event. The schools often sold muffins, pizza snails, strudels, sweet and savoury cakes. There were also pancakes, toast, gingerbread with the DofE logo and kremrole.
One of the participating schools was the Bishop's Gymnasium Varnsdorf. According to the coordinator there, Štěpánka Dlouhá, 12 students participated in the Charity Bake Sale..
"This is the fourth year we've held the DofE breakfast, and this event was an exceptional success because we had more bakers and more helpers with the sales, so there was a wider range. The event was a great success, everything was sold and the food was delicious, so not only did it raise money for the charity but it was a great feeling of a successful event," she says.
The DofE centre raised CZK 3,600 by selling sweet and savoury pastries, which went to the Donio collection. "That amount is a record for the time we have been running the DofE charity school breakfasts," said Dlouhá.
Proceeds go to a good cause
The Třeboň Practical Primary School joined the Charity Bake Sale last year. The school raised over 11,000 and the money will go to the local Vydra Eco Centre, according to coordinator Lucie Šimánková. "We are adopting a blind heron, Anezka, from the local rescue station."
The event was also a great success at the Gymnasium Jateční in Ústí nad Labem. "There were so many people interested in baking and buying snacks that we will repeat the Charity Bake Sale in about 3 weeks."
DofE ambassador Honza evaluates the whole event at the Matiční gymnasium in Ostrava: "This year's DofE Bake Sale 2025 was a huge success! Not only did we bring the MGO DofE Centre together with the non-profit organisation Helping Hand for Guimaras, but we also created an amazing atmosphere full of solidarity and enthusiasm."
Other schools donated the money raised to support local communities, clubs or public collections for disadvantaged young people.
Among the organizations supported are the Good Angel Foundation (Gymnasium Petra Bezruče, Frýdek-Místek), a shelter for dogs (OA, VŠ, JŠ with state examination rights Karlovy Vary), the project Plešouni, former students of Eliška Podzimková (Dobřichovice Elementary School), a local children's home (Gymnasium and Business Academy Mariánské Lázně) or a home for the elderly (Silesian Gymnasium, Opava).
The Gymnasium Písek raised money for the rehabilitation of a former student in a wheelchair. And the Hradec Králové Business Academy, a secondary school and language school with the right of language examination, responded to the tragic events in the Hradec Králové shop and sent money to help the survivors and families of the victims.
"We are very happy with all the schools that participated in the Charity Bake Sale this year. We already know that we want to prepare the same event next year," adds Tereza Staňková.
