On 24 April, Ústí nad Labem became the venue of the exceptional travelling event Experience DofE, which this year will take place only at the end of May in Brno. Almost 200 participants from the pupils and students of the Ústí nad Labem Region arrived at the Gymnasium Jateční. During the fun afternoon, students could try out the work of a gas fitter in a trench in virtual reality, what it is like to cook pancakes on a gas cooker or make their own canvas bag.
A great programme was prepared for all those who know the DofE and for those who have no idea. Many pupils and students were interested in the programme and we are looking forward to the ceremonies where we will meet the participants again and hope that Experience DofE will bring in some brand new participants. Other organizations from the Ústí Region, such as People in Need, the Czech Red Cross, Felisicat z.s. and the Food Bank in the Ústí Region, also participated in the program. Eko-kom introduced us to how recycling works and innogy together with GasNet provided virtual reality and detection devices used in the gas industry. The participants were enthusiastic about the diversity of the programme.
"The thing I liked the most was trying virtual reality, it was very interesting and I had never tried it before," Petr Kolář from Teplice told us. "I learned about the DofE programme and now I know I can get a useful certificate if I regularly do something I enjoy," added his friend Klaudie Lepařová.
The afternoon was accompanied by beautiful weather and the programme took place mainly in the open air in the courtyard of the Gymnasium. Some sports activities, such as rowing on the rowing machine, took place in the classrooms. The teachers who accompanied the pupils from different schools to the Ústí also praised the programme.
You can relive the DofE experience with beautiful photos.
