On March 4, 2019, we achieved another success in expanding our activities. The Hradec Králové Region (KHK) became the first region in the Czech Republic to sign a Memorandum of Cooperation with the Duke of Edinburgh International Award Czech Republic. It joins the Moravian-Silesian Region and the City of Brno. From this cooperation we expect the creation of new local centres and therefore a larger number of participants in the programme in the participating region.
On Monday morning, the DofE Executive Director Tomáš Vokáč and the Hradec Králové Region Governor Jiří Štěpán met in the building of the Regional Office in Hradec Králové to sign a memorandum of cooperation. In this Memorandum, KHK commits to support the programme. The region wants to enable young people to gain valuable experience for their development and professional career. The KHK will offer an annual financial contribution of CZK 10,000 to contributory organisations in the field of education, of which the KHK is the founder.
"Every young person has their own wishes and dreams that they can fulfil by participating in the DofE. The programme leads young people to experience, develop their personality and spend their free time in a meaningful way. It teaches them that through persistent effort and hard work, anyone can achieve even the most ambitious goals. Successful completion of the programme is sure to impress a future employer, as the certificate itself shows that the young person has worked for a long time to develop their skills and talents," says the governor Jiří Štěpán.
"We would like as many children and young people as possible to go through the programme, so we want to motivate schools to participate," adds Deputy Governor Martina Berdychová, responsible for education.
