Due to the dramatic situation in Ukraine, we have modified some of the rules regarding volunteering. Similar to the Covid-19 period, we want to offer dofaks the opportunity to donate any number of hours of your existing volunteer time to help Ukraine.

How to pass this information to your dofaks?

✔ hold a meeting, where you can discuss ways to help together and give space for ideas.
✔ offer the opportunity to consult on specific ideas for volunteering in one-to-one consultations.

How to volunteer for Ukraine in ORB?

1. The participant comes up with a form of volunteering and consults with his/her supervisor.
2. The leader reflects and discusses with the participant whether the plan is realistic and beneficial for the current situation.
3. Once the intention is approved with the supervisor, the participant only needs to write the hours and description of the help in the ORB in a similar weekly record, but only 1h per week is counted.
4. If a participant no longer wants to help in the context of Ukraine, he/she can return to his/her original volunteering and continue to enroll in ORB.

You, our wonderful leaders, play an important role as communicators in how dofactors can meaningfully engage in their volunteering.

For inspiration, we recommend the following websites, which make it clearer and update the appropriate forms of assistance www.stojimezaukrajinou.cz or www.pomahejukrajine.cz

And what else can you do as a leader?

Talking to young people about what's going on, helping them sort through information and process emotions and fears. To talk to them about the historical context and Ukrainian and Russian culture. Last but not least, to encourage young people to think critically and recognise misinformation.

For further inspiration, here is a link to a webinar from the LOCIKA - Centre for Children at Risk of Domestic Violence and Junák - Czech Scout: (How) to talk to children about war?

And we also have a great tip for you recordings narrated by Ivan Trojan about the war in Ukraine, which are widely used by teachers across the Czech Republic to inform children about the war. You can find them at this link - are intended purely for pedagogical purposes. If you work with the recordings, please let us know if they have been well received - we will be happy to provide feedback to the editors of Respekt.
