What is it like to do the DofE and what does it involve?
What is the most difficult and what does the DofE bring?
Read the article about Andrea Duchoslavova, who is a silver graduate.
Andrea is 15 years old and started her first year at secondary school in September. In December she will be one of the presenters of the bronze ceremony in Prague. She found out about DofE in primary school and was so interested in the programme that she decided to start it. She completed the silver level in June and is now preparing for the gold level because, as she says, "It would be a shame not to finish."
What activities did you choose in the 3 DofE areas? And what were your objectives for each activity?
Since I have been dancing for ten years, I chose dancing as a sport activity. And strangely enough, I managed to meet all my goals, although I didn't really expect it for some of them. But at least I proved to myself that all it takes is a little motivation and I can do what I have been trying to do for 5 years in one year. I love photography and that was also the reason why I chose photography as a skill. I mainly took pictures of nature and my dad gave me advice because he is a photographer. I got so caught up in it that I really want to continue with it! As part of my volunteering, I visited a nursery. As I was in Year 9 at the time and choosing a secondary school, I had a clear path thanks to the DofE. I was so hooked on working with children that I chose a degree in Early Years and Out of School Education.
Where did you go on your expedition and what are your favourite memories?
My favourite memory is probably our first expedition, which was really interesting. We didn't even know what to expect. We got lost a few times, settling in wasn't the best either, and then somehow we miraculously managed to burn the pasta. But we handled all this with humour and the whole expedition was an incredible experience and a huge learning experience.
Which of the DofE activities do you enjoy the most and why?
I guess I can't decide which one I enjoy the most and which one I enjoy the least. I chose all the activities to keep me entertained and that's why I like doing them all and each one has something to offer.
What is the most difficult thing for you in the program?
The hardest thing in the program is probably to overcome and not give up.
What has the DofE given you in your life? How do you think it will help you in the future?
I think the DofE has made a big impact on my future. If only because it helped me find the school that will most likely be the basis for my career. I also think it helped me realise that if I have a goal I want to achieve and I really dedicate myself to it, I can achieve it.
Why would you recommend the DofE to anyone else?
I would recommend DofE to others because they will gain a huge experience, find new hobbies, overcome themselves and have a lot of fun!
Thank you Andrea for the interview.
